You might like Pat Forde's article about some of this.
Like I said in the preview, I don't begrudge the feelings of the Illini fans, and I have no problem with pretty much any booing or chants they came up with. I think it's over the top to throw anything at anyone in the stands (aside from throwing something at one of your friends or family who is sitting near you). It reminds of the time that some Maryland fans threw batteries at the Duke players' parents at Cole Field House several years ago, and I think anything that reminds me of Terp fans can't be good.

Still, I think the suggestion that IU would have handled it better is unnecessarily sanctimonious. Once the beads or the ice was thrown, it was over the top, and no announcement could have made that better. Really, I don't know what anyone (other than the throwers abstaining) could have done to keep that from happening.Abshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11771900165812051219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680737970114545827.post-18291545895230906252008-02-09T11:26:00.000-05:002008-02-09T11:26:00.000-05:00hopefully this Link will work.hopefully this Link will work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680737970114545827.post-63797527048546762492008-02-09T11:20:00.000-05:002008-02-09T11:20:00.000-05:00"Bilas calls out Illini on behavior", Indianapolis..."Bilas calls out Illini on behavior", Indianapolis Star, Feb. 9, 2008 http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080209/SPORTS0601/802090475/1247/SPORTS

There is no doubt that the conduct of the Illini fans was reprehensible before and during this game. I'm glad that Jay Bilas had the guts to criticize both the University, the fans and Illinois player Frazier for their conduct. Read the full article and note the difference between how IU handled their situation in the Connecticut game versus the Illinois administration regarding the IU game.lAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5680737970114545827.post-3756541470690391192008-02-08T17:14:00.000-05:002008-02-08T17:14:00.000-05:00No commentary on this game is appropriate. Team play beats individual play in the long run, and it is too bad that Illinois's Pruitt couldn't make a free throw. Illinois deserved to win this one.

If I correctly heard Sampson's comment in his interview right after the game, he said he told Gordon at half time to shoot every time he got the ball. I don't think he really said that to Gordon, but the fact that he would make that comment to the announcer and then smile about it tells me that is exactly what is wrong with this "team". They are not being coached to play as a "team", and until they do they won't win the Big 10 (little eleven).

Thanks to ESPN I was able to watch this one.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
